Conservation areas in Indonesia are facing increasingly complex challenges. These challenges range from economic pressures and changes in land use to weak law enforcement. In the midst of this situation, the voices and roles of younger generations are often marginalized. Yet, they are at the forefront of change.

The Monitor, a quarterly publication of the Independent Forestry Monitoring Network (JPIK), provides a platform for presenting the latest field reports, community perspectives, and analyses of forestry policies from various viewpoints.

This XXII edition specifically explores the initiatives and dynamics of young people around Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS). The largest conservation area in Sumatra is now threatened by deforestation and uncontrolled development. Through monitoring, creative campaigns, educational activities, and direct advocacy, young people are offering a fresh approach to forest conservation grounded in ecological and social justice.

This edition also includes critical policy opinions on the revised Forestry Law’s potential impact on forest protection and indigenous peoples’ rights.
