Jambi Forest Guardian’s Contribution to the International Stage in Forest Conservation

As part of Forest Guardian Jambi, Boby shares his community’s experience in monitoring forests in Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS). TNKS is one of the largest protected forests in Southeast Asia that faces various threats such as illegal logging, land clearing, and deforestation. According to Boby, most of the forest destruction is caused by economic pressures that make local communities dependent on forestry areas for livelihoods. However, through monitoring activities and creative campaigns on social media, Forest Guardian is trying to raise public and government awareness about the importance of forest conservation.
“We at Forest Guardian have conducted forestry monitoring in Kerinci Seblat National Park and found various causes of damage, including illegal logging and land clearing,” Boby said. “In addition, we also conducted a creative campaign on Instagram and will continue to expand our efforts, such as holding interactive dialogs with young leaders in Kerinci.”
Global Discussion on Climate Change Issues
In RCOY, delegates from countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and China expressed their concerns regarding climate change. The conference was also attended by speakers from Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), who presented on renewable energy, and from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Climate who provided an update on the country’s climate situation. The Child Fund was also present and explained their role in addressing the impacts of climate change on children and vulnerable communities.
Collaboration for Climate Action
At the end of the event, delegates drafted a statement covering climate change issues, concerns, and recommendations that will be submitted to COP29 and global governments. Boby called the RCOY experience a great opportunity to network and collaborate with youth from various countries in strengthening climate action.
“This is a very valuable experience. I was able to meet delegates from various countries and learn from them, while collaborating to create solutions for a better future,” Boby said.
Building a Young Generation for Sustainable Climate Action
RCOY aims to empower youth in climate action and strengthen their voice in influencing global policies. This is a contribution towards COP29, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024. Through this activity, Boby Indrawan and Forest Guardian Jambi continue to prove their commitment in facing climate change and preserving the environment in Indonesia, especially in the Sumatran forest area.
As a young man who is dedicated to environmental issues, Boby hopes that his contribution can inspire more young people to get involved in real action in the face of climate change.
